Fundamentals of medical microneedling
Medical microneedling is a minimally invasive method for percutaneous collagen induction (PCI). Very fine and small needles are used to create microscopic channels in the epidermis and dermis. These controlled micro-injuries cause the body to naturally produce collagen and elicit other healing responses. The ensuing release of platelet-derived growth factors (PDGFs) triggers the release of cell growth factors as well as dermal fibroblast infiltration. This initiates the synthesis of endogenous elastin and collagen, just below the epidermis’s basal layer.
